Overview
This Christmas ornament by Sebo3D produces a detailed winter scene with a layered relief effect. It prints cleanly on an FDM printer using colour changes to bring out the foreground and background. I printed it in two contrasting PLA colours to achieve a crisp decorative look suitable for the Christmas tree or as a small seasonal gift.
Model information
Model: Christmas Ornament
Designer: Sebo3D
Source: MakerWorld listing
The design uses shallow relief, raised highlights and a strong outer ring of details. It is ideal for multi-colour decorative prints without requiring complex supports.
Filament used
Colours: Black PLA and Jade White PLA
Filament type: PLA
Why: The high contrast between black and white gives the ornament a clean, crisp engraved appearance. White highlights stand out clearly against the black background.
Printer and settings
- Printer: Bambu Lab A1
- Nozzle: 0.4 mm
- Plate: Textured PEI
- Initial layer height: 0.16 mm
- Other layers: 0.08 mm
- Infill: 100 percent (solid for strength and visual consistency)
- Supports: Not required
- Tower: Not required
If you have AMS, set colour changes at the layer transition defined in the project file. If you do not have AMS, manually insert a pause at 1.04 mm (12th layer) to switch from black to white filament.
Slicing notes
- Orientation: Printed flat on the build plate.
- Colour change: At 1.04 mm / 12th layer.
- Detail level: The 0.08 mm layers capture the fine ornament border and roof textures cleanly.
- Cooling: Full cooling after the first few layers improves small details along the trees and border.
The design prints cleanly as long as the first layer bonds well. The ornament is thin but stable thanks to the 100 percent infill.
Print time and material usage
Using the A1 with 0.08 mm layers:
- Print time: approximately 1h50m
- Material usage: around 15 grams
- Estimated cost: around £0.25–£0.40 per ornament depending upon filament used
Results
The contrast between black and Jade White provides a clean, carved-stone look. Fine details in the border, roof tiles and pine trees printed sharply at 0.08 mm layer height. The manual colour change at 1.04 mm aligned exactly with the raised foreground details.
You can comfortably fit 4 of these on the bed of the A1 if you want to produce them in bulk.

What I would change next time
- Try metallic gold or copper PLA for the foreground details.
- Test a translucent background colour for a light-through effect.
- Print a scaled-down mini version as a matching set.
